Putting life in perspective
This post is not my normal type of posting but its something that just sort of hit me. So I’m sharing.

I was watching VH1 Soul and a video by Foxy Brown came up. The only Hip Hop I listen to is what I call conscious Hip Hop and well Foxy Brown type of Hip Hop is not my style. I knew there was a female Hip Hop artist serving jail time and I wondered if she was the person. So after putting her name in a search engine I came across an unexpected reality about her. She has gone deaf due to a rare condition. And I just stared at the picture of her on the website. That’s so sad.
I thought about all the success, money and fame she has and then realized what does that matter when you have lost your hearing. Especially if your livelihood is music. How does she adjust? How does she continue making music? Where does her life go from here? My prayers go out to her for her life has been dramatically changed.

Earlier today I was reading about Erykah Badu. I have been a fan of Badu since Baduism hit the store shelves. I’ve wondered about her image evolution over the years but she is doing her “thang” and she stays true to that and I admire that in a person. I was thinking about how she stays focused on her health and her spiritual state and I’ve always seen her as a role model in those areas.
After reading about Badu and Foxy Brown I had to take a look at my life and wonder what improvements do I need to make. What do I need to do different to evolve my life. I think the best thing artists can do for masses is inspire us to do better. Their lives and music have a huge impact on those who listen. Oh I did learn that it was Lil Kim who is in prison.
